Best Cruise Lines - Cunard

An experience like no other

Cunard's traditions began in 1939, when Samuel Cunard, a wealthy resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, won the British Admiralty's bid to provide regular trans-atlantic steamship-based mail service between the UK and North America.

The first ship, the Britannia, left Liverpool, England on July 4, 1980 and arrived in Boston fourteen days later. To honor this event, Cunard was presented with a 30" silver cup crafted by Shreve, Crump and Low, Boston's most celebrated and oldest jewelry firm.

Cunard has a tradition of firsts:

  • The line created the trans-atlantic steamship market;
  • In 1922, the Cunard Laconia introduced the concept of a World Cruise;
Cunard's Queen Victoria begins her
maiden year voyages on December 11, 2007
when she will join her sister
Queens, the QE2 and QM2.
  • Cunard launched the first vessel purpose-built for both Trans-atlantic crossings and pleasure cruising; and
  • 2007 marks the first time three Cunard Queens will be in service on the seas.

Listed in the 2008 Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships as the very best large cruise ships, Cunard is one of our top choices for Best Cruise Lines.

Cunard continues its tradition of innovation and excellence in today's fleet of liners, the Queen Elizabeth 2™, the Queen Mary 2™ and the Queen Victoria™.
